Brent Graham

I have been in Barbershop since 1978, but my passion for music started when I was just 4 years old, harmonizing with my Dad in my home town of Santa Barbara, California. I currently reside in Phoenix, AZ and am happy to be back in the Far Western District and stints in Oregon and Minneapolis.

Who is This Guy?

I have a long and varied musical resume, starting with being a member of the Blende Blenders marimba band in Santa Barbara, CA when I was just 6 years old. I was a tenor in the world renowned Santa Barbara High School Madrigal Singers from 1971-1973, and had a stint as a singer with the Continental Singers in the summer of 1976. But Barbershop has been my passion for 40 years.

I became a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS) in 1978, and have served as chorus member, certified judge, director, quartet member, coach and arranger. I directed the Santa Barbara Channel City chorus (BHS) for 11 years and was a Master Director for the City of Lakes chorus (a part of Sweet Adelines International) from 2001-2009. I served as the Interim Director of the Vallee de Croix SAI chorus from January-September of 2014.

I was a BHS Certified Judge from 1986-1993 in the Interpretation Category, and from 1993-2004 in the Music Category. I was selected to judge five International Contests, most recently in 2004. In 2014, I re-entered the Music Category, as I just couldn't stay away from the greatest fraternity in Barbershop!

From 2010-2015, I was honored to be on the faculty of Harmony University, the annual, week-long BHS Barbershop school. I taught a class called "Interpretation Demystified", coached quartets and choruses, and presented a special "Killer Tags" class. Talk about a fun way to spend a week!

I have sung in thirteen BHS registered quartets on every voice part except bass! In 1999, I was invited to become the baritone of 8-time International Finalist Excalibur. We finished as high as 7th in the BHS International contests before retiring in 2003. I was a member of three Land O' Lakes District champion quartets, Quest (2004), X-factor (2008), and GQ (2011). I currently am singing with my newest quartet, Suit Up!, and am one of the Artistic Directors for the 2016 fifth place Far Western District medalist chorus, A Cappella Syndicate.

I completed my first Barbershop arrangement while still in High School, and now have over 170 arrangements to my credit. Gold Medalist quartets such as Realtime and 4-Star Collection have sung my charts while winning their championships with popular charts like Yesterday I Heard the Rain and Here Am I, Brokenhearted. I have also been commissioned to arrange show-stoppers like Life is a Highway, This Heart of Mine, Spies in the Night, and Rhythm of Love.

Now that you know a bit about me, enjoy perusing my site and let me know if I can arrange just the right song for your quartet or chorus!
